Test drive an electric vehicle in the ACT next month

Canberrans can test drive an electric vehicle (EV) and find out everything they need to know about owning and driving an EV at the NRMA EV Drive Day event on 10 to 11 November.

Six hundred EV test-drives are available, on models including Tesla, BMW, Hyundai, and Nissan, suiting everyone from young families to car enthusiasts.

The test drive includes a walk through of EV features and drive modes, and a qualified driving expert to accompany you on your drive around a controlled racetrack.

“One of the biggest barriers for new EV owners, or people considering the transition to an EV, is the uncertainty that comes with new technology,” Shane Rattenbury, ACT Minister for Water, Energy and Emissions Reduction, said.

“Events like the NRMA EV Drive Day give Canberrans the opportunity to chat to experts about buying, charging, and operating EVs over their full lifespan. There’s no better way to get a true feel for an EV than by getting behind the wheel yourself and seeing exactly how they handle.”

There will also be other providers, activities, and experts to chat with and get advice from, as well as children’s activities and plenty of food and drink.

“The NRMA is supporting and encouraging the transition to an electric future, and the EV drive days provide a great opportunity to speak to the community about the benefits of electric vehicles,” NRMA board director Kate Lundy said.

“We have seen the number of Australians purchasing EVs continue to increase, particularly in the ACT, which has the highest ownership of EVs per capita.

“As Australians learn more about owning and operating EVs, many are now considering EVs for their transport future.”

The NRMA Drive Days event will be held at the Sutton Road Training Centre in Majura, from 1pm – 4pm on Friday 10th November and 9am – 4pm on Saturday 11th November. Free parking will be available on site.

The event isfree to attend, but registration is required for EV test drives.

The NRMA EV Drive Days event is a partnership between the ACT Government, NSW Government, and NRMA.

Book in for the event or find out more information on the NRMA website.

This weekend, Canberrans can also test drive an EV and chat with industry experts and leaders, EV owners, and retailers, at the Sustainable Canberra Expo (13 and 14 October).

“Transport emissions make up over 60 percent of emissions in the ACT,” Mr Rattenbury said. “As we continue on our Pathway to Electrification and net zero emissions by 2045, events like these help us arm Canberrans with the tools and the knowledge needed to make the transition to an electric vehicle at a time that is right for them.”
