In Chinese medicine, close attention has always been paid to observing nature. In particular, by studying the cycle of the seasons assiduously, Chinese scholars developed principles that underpinned their methodology for supporting health and happiness throughout the year.
Spring, coming as it does after a period of winter stillness and inactivity, sees our vitality quicken and expand; you naturally feel like being more active and more social.
Conversely, some people feel more irritable and agitated or depressed; allergies and hayfever can flare up. If you’re feeling worse now that spring’s arrived, it’s a sign your body needs extra support.
One simple way to help your whole system to be at its optimum is to gently cleanse. You can help your system cleanse two ways: by reducing or removing foods you know overload your system like dairy, grains, refined sugars and alcohol; or by introducing more nutrient-rich foods into your diet. Even better – do both!
A delicious way to cleanse is to introduce a nutrient-dense daily green juice into your diet. Try a combination of leafy greens such as lettuce, spinach and kale with cucumber and celery, lemon or lime and herbs like parsley, mint, ginger or basil. For a touch of sweetness, add green apple or coconut water. If you don’t have a juicer, use a blender and then a fine mesh strainer to remove the pulp.
So instead of that second coffee this morning try a green juice and notice the upgrade to your energy levels, mood and mental clarity for the rest of the day.
