Suspended probationary driver caught drink driving twice in one night

A 22-year-old woman driving on a suspended probationary licence has been charged with drink driving offences and is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today, Monday 6 April.

About 12.35am yesterday, Sunday 5 April, police stopped a vehicle on Coulter Drive in Belconnen. The driver, who is a probationary licence holder, was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result.

The woman was taken to Belconnen Police Station where she underwent further analysis, returning a result of 0.148. The legal limit for a probationary driver is 0.00.

The woman was issued an immediate suspension notice for a period of 90 days and was released from custody at 1.20am.

About 1.45am, police saw the woman’s vehicle driving on Southern Cross drive and a short time later pulled the car over on Ratcliffe Crescent.

The woman exited the driver side of the vehicle. Police arrested her and she was taken to City Police Station where she underwent further analysis, returning a result of 0.115.

The woman has been charged with two counts of drink driving and drive while suspension notice in effect.
