Australians were just coming to terms with working from home, and now with the closures of gyms, we’re going to need to work out from home, too. Luckily, there are a range of apps and online programs that will transport a trainer to your living room so you can still smash out a workout, whatever the situation.
If you’re keen to do some heavy lifting while at home, Canberra Daily’s fitness columnist and personal trainer Lee Campbell shares some tips on setting up a home gym that will work for you. He says the key is to create a functional area, one that isn’t overcrowded with stuff you’ll never use: “do not impulse buy and steer clear of big bulk machines that take up lots of space”.
He recommends starting with the basics:
- Mat
- Med ball
- Skipping rope
- Dumbbells
- Flat bench (this can be used for step-ups, dips, bench presses, etc.)
- Weighted bars
We’ve also compiled a few online/app-based programs that’ll keep you fighting fit while staying at home.
1 Keep it Cleaner
Founded by models and entrepreneurs Steph Claire Miller and Laura Henshaw, Keep it Cleaner (KIC) is a “lifestyle program” with daily workouts, meals and meditation sessions for an all-round balanced life. Try your hand at HIIT, boxing, running, strength training, yoga and Pilates, all from your living room. The KIC team has also just announced an ‘equipment free’ workout bank in the app, with multiple HIIT and boxing workouts that require zero equipment – perfect for a home workout.
