Australian Elizabeth Debicki has won her first Golden Globe Award for her role as Diana, Princess of Wales, in The Crown.

She was named best Supporting Actress in a TV series.

The Australian actress, 33, dedicated the award to her godmother who “left us too quickly” and thanked her “pretend children” Ed McVey and Luther Ford who play Prince William and Prince Harry on the show respectively.

In other early awards, TV series Beef has done well with co-stars Ali Wong and Steven Yeun winning their nominations in acting categories.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph won the first award of the night for her supporting actress role in the holiday movie “The Holdovers” as Mary Lamb, the grieving school cook who lost her son in Vietnam.

Robert Downey Jr picked up an award as best supporting actor in the movie juggernaut Oppenheimer which has eight nominations, just behind Barbie with nine.

“My new year’s resolution for 2024 is to finish Oppenheimer in 2025,” host Jo Koy joked, before jumping to a few Barbie gags, which was met with few laughs, resulting in Koy breaking the fourth wall.

Koy opened with a joke about watching the nominated titles: “I lied. I only watch Beef, the Filipino American actor joked. “It’s mandatory. I’m Asian.”
