Canberra man floored by million-dollar Lotto win

A Canberra man has admitted he spent yesterday screening phone calls from the Lott, assuming it was a telemarketer, not news of a million-dollar Wednesday Lotto win.

The ACT player held the only division one winning entry nationally in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4005, drawn Wednesday 2 September, and takes home a division one prize of $1 million.

In his state of shock, the winning man initially dismissed the million-dollar news, but later revealed he planned to use his prize to retire years earlier than heโ€™d imagined.

Confirming his win with an official from the Lott this afternoon (Friday 4 September), the winner explained he was blown away by the news.
ย
โ€œIs this fair dinkum?โ€ he said. โ€œThis is crazy. Wow!
ย
โ€œIโ€™ve been looking at this on my app and thinking this was rubbish.โ€

When asked how he thought he might enjoy his million-dollar windfall, the loving dad had one particular thing in mind.
ย
โ€œIโ€™ve got children and grandchildren, and they are the first people who came to mind, so I definitely want to be able to help them,โ€ he said.
ย
โ€œThis is just fantastic; it means I will be able to retire early.
ย
โ€œIโ€™ll have to do my sums and work out how I can really step back from work and take it easy!
ย
โ€œI know itโ€™s really hard to travel at the moment, but weโ€™d love to go back to Europe one day.
ย
โ€œI canโ€™t wait to tell my partner. She is going to freak out!โ€
