Cavalry claim 3-1 series win over Geelong-Korea

The Canberra Cavalry have rounded out its series against Geelong-Korea with a 5-3 victory at the Narrabundah Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors opened the scoring with a single run at the top of the second innings with Kyu-Sung Kim hitting a home run. 

The Cavs answered at the bottom of the third when a Jake MacKenzie triple allowed Cam Warner to cross home plate.

Canberra then pulled ahead at the top of the fourth when catcher Robbie Perkins crossed following a fielding error to make the score 2-1.

Geelong-Korea evened the score at the top of the sixth when Ju-Hong Park made it home, before they pulled ahead 3-2 at the top of the seventh when Ju-Hong Park stole a base and then made it home on a double from Kyu-Sung Kim.

The Cavalry pulled ahead and secured the win with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Mitchell Edwards and Jake MacKenzie scoring from a Cole Roederer single, and Cole Roederer crossing on a Tillman Pugh double.

Both bullpens were very active, with no less than six pitchers from each team seeing action during the game. Cavs pitcher Jimmy Boyce was awarded the win, with Junwon Seo taking the loss for the visitors. 

Canberra led the way with 11 hits to 6, with five different players scored for the Cavalry, while Jake MacKenzie, Cole Roederer and Chris Kwitzer all had 2 hits.

Today’s victory means the Cavalry secures the series against Geelong-Korea 3-1. The Cavalry improve to 8 wins and 8 losses on the season – while Geelong-Korea’s record slips to 5 wins and 10 losses.

Thursday the Cavalry head to South Australia, where they take on the Adelaide Giants in a four-game series. The first game is Thursday evening – with a second on Friday and double-header Saturday.
