Food for thought: We Love Local Festival

We Love Local festival

Tallagandra Hill Winery are celebrating coming out of isolation with the We Love Local Festival, featuring a program of entertainment options that support local artists and producers at the winery’s iconic venue in Gundaroo. Kicking off the action on Saturday 11 July is the Fireside Jazz Dinner with jazz ensemble, Ella’s Holiday. Tickets include the show, dinner and a glass of Tallagandra Hill wine, with further drinks available to purchase from the bar on the night. Tickets are extremely limited – we’ve heard a number of festival events are selling out fast – and bookings are invited for a minimum of four and a maximum of 12 people.

We Love Local will run through to September. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit tallagandrahill.com.au

Canberra gin featured in winter pack

The Canberra Distillery’s winter gin is being celebrated by gin curators Gintonica, who have included it in their 2020 winter gin pack. Each pack includes four 50ml bottles of Australian gin, and Canberra Distillery’s lightly spiced, sweet basil gin sits alongside Bass & Flinders’ winter gin, Brookie’s slow gin from Cape Byron Distillery, and the winter gin from Tasmania’s Forty Spotted.

The winter gin pack is available for $42 via gintonica.com.au. Full size bottles of The Canberra Distillery’s winter gin are available for $60; for stockists visit thecanberradistillery.com.au

Zero Proof Festival

Local alcohol-free cocktail company Altina Drinks will run several events this month as part of their Zero Proof Festival – a series of alcohol-free events that celebrate eating, drinking and living better. The festival kicked off yesterday (1 July) with an Instagram live conversation with Sober in the Country’s Shanna Whan, and will continue on Wednesday 15 July with a cooking masterclass at Pialligo Estate with Mix 106.3’s Kristen Davidson, where guests will be taken on a ‘seafood journey’ with a two-course meal paired with Altina’s non-alcoholic craft cocktails. Live tickets and ‘at home’ tickets will be available to cater for those who want to head out and those who want to stay in. The festival will close with a nutrition seminar hosted by Kate Freeman from the Healthy Eating Hub on Wednesday 29 July. “People should be able to drink, or not drink, on their terms, without being judged,” says Altina’s co-founder Alan Tse. “Through the Zero Proof Festival, we hope to be a vehicle to help change the Aussie drinking culture.”
