History as Summernats sold out for first time

Summernats has made history with the iconic Canberra car festival all but sold out for the first time ever.

After a record-breaking attendance on Thursday, organisers closed the online sale of season passes mid-afternoon on Friday.

Later that evening organisers announced that tickets for Summernats on Saturday had completely sold out, with only limited tickets for Sunday available for purchase.

Thousands of people have been enjoying the biggest event on record. With entrant numbers at a record 2,700, the highly successful City Cruise, a huge line up of entertainment, 24 cars uncovered in the Meguiar’s Pavilion, cruising and burnouts, and over 100,000 spectators expected across the weekend, organisers made the call to close the sale of tickets for Saturday and limit the sale of tickets for Sunday.

Summernats Co-Owner Andy Lopez said the sell out was a reflection of how loves the event is around the country.

“The huge attendance reflects the wider audience the event is now attracting,” Lopez said.

“People have come in from around the country and around the globe to experience the world’s craziest car festival.

“The success of the event is due to the efforts of his hard-working and dedicated team of event professionals and engagement with Government, Police and other agencies.”

While the event has all but sold out at EPIC, people can still soak up the colour, fun and variety of crazy cars at the Braddon Fringe Festival from 6.00pm on Saturday night.

For ticket holders, day 3 of Summernats starts at 9.00am on Saturday with the Drift Cadet drift rides, traders and exhibitors, concerts, fireworks, Top 60 Finalist Show, Burnout Masters qualifiers and a full program of mad fun.
