Man, 18, faces court after assaulting police officer

An 18-year-old man has faced the ACT Magistrates Court today, Monday 14 June, on a number of charges including recklessly inflicting actual bodily harm to a police officer.

About 1.30am on Sunday, the man was involved in an altercation in Garema Place.

A member of the public waved down police on patrol nearby and informed them there was a fight occurring.

On arrival, police restrained the man. He freed his arms and began pushing police away from him and swinging his arms at them wildly.

While resisting police efforts to restrain him, the man struck an officer in the face, puncturing his lower lip and dislodging a tooth.

The man was arrested and taken to the ACT Regional Watch House.

He has been charged with recklessly inflict actual bodily harm to a police officer, resist a public official and fighting in a public place.
