ReNewYou program returns with free workouts

The City Renewal Authorityโ€™s ReNewYou program is coming back to the CBD, with free lunchtime workouts in the order of Zumba, bootcamp and yoga.

ReNewYou will kick off on Tuesday 1 September with Zumba, after the program had to be suspended in March due to COVID-19. It will now run with a โ€œfew COVID-safe tweaksโ€, including physical distancing and hygiene measures, to provide the people of Canberra with weekly, free activity classes in the city centreโ€™s public spaces.

โ€œThere are lots of great public spaces in our city that can be used in a safe, physically-distanced way, and our ReNewYou program aims to help people in the city centre use those to get a little bit healthier,โ€ said the City Renewal Authorityโ€™s chief executive, Malcolm Snow.

โ€œExercising and staying healthy is as important now as ever and this program gives people an extra opportunity to get out in the fresh air and be a bit more active.

โ€œWhether youโ€™re working in the city, or a city resident working from home, or can just make some spare time over lunch one day a week, ReNewYou is a great way to fit some more healthy activity into your life.โ€

Zumba classes will take place in Garema Place throughout September, bootcamp will run through October in Glebe Park, and City Walk is due to host yoga sessions in November.

โ€œWe will be taking all the appropriate steps to ensure the safety of participants,โ€ Mr Snow said.

โ€œParticipants will need to register ahead of the sessions so that we can ensure we have enough space for physical distancing and also that we have details for contract tracing.

โ€œThere will be no sharing of equipment and participants will need to bring their own water bottles, towels and mats (for yoga). People will be encouraged to sanitise their hands when necessary.

โ€œAnd of course, people should not come if they are unwell.โ€
