Teen to face court over baseball bat property damage

A 17-year-old who allegedly damaged cars and a restaurant in Belconnen with a baseball bat last night is expected to face the ACT Children’s Court today, Thursday 22 October.

The teen will face charges over a series of property damage offences.

Police allege that between 6.30pm and 9pm yesterday, Wednesday 21 October, the teen used a silver baseball bat to damage several vehicles on Chandler Street, Belconnen, before damaging a restaurant window on Emu Bank.

About 9.10pm, police attended the location and were advised by witnesses that the teen had fled the location into John Knight Memorial Park.

A short time later, he was apprehended in John Knight Memorial Park following a short foot pursuit, during which a Conductive Electrical Weapon (CEW) was deployed.

The teen has been charged with five counts of property damage and one count of possession of a thing with intent to damage.
