To the editor: ACT kangaroo cull is cruel

Bill Stefaniak’s response to A. Kusta’s criticism of his support/sympathy of animal welfare was a heartening read (CW 18 August 2022, p20). His closing suggestion to donate to RSPCA and perhaps sponsor a koala was almost perfect. He was responsible for increasing penalties for animal cruelty from 12 months to 2 years in 2004 while shadow Attorney-General. So, my question is what about the kangaroo cruelty during the annual cull, Bill? How any person can claim this is not cruelty, despite claims of “experts” that this is humane, is totally unacceptable. We must stop the killing.
